Facial fat transfer involves removing excess fat from an area of the body and injecting it around the chin to enhance the smoothness and sharpness of the jawline. It’s a terrific, minimally-invasive way to augment the areas around a chin or chin augmentation to make for a seamless transition between the chin and the jaw.
While some surgeons may recommend fat to enhance the chin, Dr. Rahban does not use the fat for the chin but rather surrounding the chin. In order to enhance the chin you need to enhance the bone—this is why an implant is ideal.
Once your fat transfer is complete, you will likely experience some swelling and mild bruising at both the donor site and in the chin and jaw area. Fortunately, these effects should subside within a few days. Many of our patients report that their postoperative pain is minimal and easily managed with the medication that Dr. Rahban prescribes.
Compared to other cosmetic procedures, the overall recovery period associated with a fat transfer is quite short. In fact, most of our patients are able to return to work and their normal daily routines within a day or two. In addition, the results of your fat transfer will be apparent immediately and should continue to improve once the swelling has disappeared.
