Chin What Procedure Do I Need?

When it comes to augmenting your chin, no two approaches are exactly alike – because no two patients share the same facial anatomy. With that said, there are certain procedures that Dr. Rahban tends to recommend for specific aesthetic imperfections. Please keep in mind that in many cases, your treatment will consist of a custom blend of these surgeries to ensure an ideal outcome.

Undesirable chin shape, length and/or position

A chin that is recessed, slanted and/or too long can create an unbalanced profile. When this occurs, Dr. Rahban can typically sculpt a more attractive facial appearance with the right chin implant. In most cases, an implant that is properly sized, shaped and positioned for your unique anatomy can restore harmony to your face and create more pleasing proportions.

Asymmetrical chin pad

Facial symmetry is an important driver of attractiveness. As such, any asymmetries tend to create an undesirable cosmetic effect. To treat an asymmetrical chin pad, Dr. Rahban commonly uses a fat transfer to the chin to augment the area and obscure any imbalances. This minimally-invasive approach does not offer a permanent solution, but it is highly effective and very safe. If you want a longer-lasting approach, Dr. Rahban can either contour your existing bone or insert a perfectly symmetrical chin implant.

Double chin

A double chin is also known as “submental fullness.” It develops when a layer of fat accumulates beneath the chin due to age, genetics or weight gain. This heaviness is typically unresponsive to diet and exercise, and as such is one of the leading reasons patients seek out a chin augmentation with Dr. Rahban. Fortunately, there are a number of solutions that can help resolve a double chin.

The first is submental liposuction, which involves removing the problematic fullness to refine the neck and chin area. In many cases, this simple procedure is all that’s necessary. However, some patients may also require a neck lift to address aging skin and lax muscles, while others may need a chin implant as well to strengthen the jaw.

Weak Jaw

The appearance of a weak jaw is often caused by a fleshy neck and receding chin. How Dr. Rahban addresses these issues will depend on both your anatomy and the degree of the problem. For example, some patients need a blend of surgeries to properly strengthen the jaw area.

In addition to the creation of a more prominent chin with an implant and a fat transfer, they also require submental liposuction and a neck lift. Others find that they only need one of these procedures to define their jaw and achieve the contoured overall look they desire.
